Why have you decided to have family friendly workplace policies?
UNMMG is focused on providing the very best care for our patients. In order to do this, we need a workforce that knows we provide a family-friendly environment. Our employees can’t focus on the needs of their patients if they are concerned about their own families. We provide an environment where our employees have opportunities to take care of themselves and their families.
How do family friendly workplace policies contribute to your business success?
Our employees are our focus. Without them and their contributions we would not be able to provide excellence in service to our community. Having family friendly policies helps our employees to have comfort in their employment. This was evident with our significant improvement in our last employee engagement survey.
What advice do you have for other businesses wanting to add family friendly policies?
Family friendly policies will help your organization flourish! With these types of policies, you will retain your best employees and attract the right talent for your organization.
How has being a family friendly awardee helped you attract and retain employees?
Having a reputation in the community for being a family friendly employer helps us to attract talent to our organization. It also helps us compete with other employers and thus retain our employees. We have had employees leave our organization only to come back within months after realizing that we are an employer who provides excellence in care and service for our patients and our employees.

Our providers serve as the primary caregivers at the state’s only academic medical center, UNM Hospital, in addition to practicing at Sandoval Regional Medical Center and elsewhere throughout the state.
