Why have you decided to have family friendly workplace policies?
From the beginning, we knew we wanted a workplace that would support and respect the staff we hired. Working with primarily women, we knew this would require having family friendly workplace policies in place.
How do family friendly workplace policies contribute to your business success?
Allowing flexibility and offering the support in our family friendly policies have allowed us to retain our staff over time, encourage leadership and skills development, and create a supportive atmosphere in our studio.
What are the most popular family friendly policies among your employees?
Paid time off is used by everyone, and our staff love that they get three weeks paid vacation between Christmas and New Years. Many of our immigrant and refugee staff are also the head of their households and responsible for the care of their children. Offering flexible hours and support for them to attend things like parent teacher conferences has been so important for the health of their families.
What advice do you have for other businesses wanting to add family friendly policies?
Invest in your staff and they will invest in your business!
How has COVID affected your business? What are your plans post COVID?
We had to close production several times during the shutdowns and operated at below half time last year. This year, we are close to being in production full time and are hopeful we can grow the business through our shift to online sales.
