Why have you decided to have family friendly workplace policies?
Family Friendly workplace policies embody everything Flyby Provisions believes and stands for when it comes to building a business and taking care of our employees. We believe that owning a sustainable business means acknowledging the needs of the people who work for the company. If my employees have to worry about fulfilling their basic needs or don’t have the time or resources to tend to what matters to them, they cannot be present to do the work necessary for this business to grow.
How do family friendly workplace policies contribute to your business success?
Part of running a successful business in my opinion is not just about the margins or day-to-day expenses, but about honoring the lives and interests of our employees. We want them to fully experience and enjoy life–we work to live our best lives, not the other way around.
What are the most popular family friendly policies among your employees?
Flexible work scheduling and hybrid working are definitely popular. If someone has a plan to do something that is important to them, whether it’s for family or just wanting to go on a trip (sometimes a three-month trip) we don’t question it–we work around it.
What advice do you have for other businesses wanting to add family friendly policies?
Just do it! Treat others as you wish to be treated. It’s that simple.
How has COVID affected your business? What are your plans post COVID?
Flyby Provisions was initially born out of the pandemic. Before opening our brick and mortar shop downtown, Flyby Provisions focused on corporate gifting and office provisioning. But once the pandemic hit and people switched to working remotely, we had to pivot. Care packages and custom gift boxes were our solution. When I stumbled upon a perfect downtown store front right next to Zendo, a retail space seemed like the logical next step. Going forward, we’re focused on building the presence of the downtown shop and also hope to grow our list of local clients.
How can the community support your business?
Shop small and tell your friends! We love meeting all the new people who come into the store and are here to serve our community with our speciality boxes and unique local goods and provisions! Come see us! We’re open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
